CartoConsult provide analysis and graphical support for planning applications including Landscape and Visual Impact Assessments (LVIA).
LVIA is an important part of the Environmental Assessment of any development that could potentially negatively affect either the landscape itself or have a visual impact.
The two should ideally be treated as independent but related. CartoConsult undertakes LVIAs using best practice as recommended in the Guidelines for Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (3rd Edition).
These are used within a 3D model to produce a realistic image of what a proposed development will look like from a specific viewpoint.
The point where the photo is taken in the real world is accurately surveyed and added to a 3D model of the proposed development.
The elements from the 3D model that are needed are added to the photo to ‘blend’ the two together. The end result is reliable and documentation of methodology is produced as evidence.
Zone of theoretical visibility ( ztv)
A Viewshed or Zone of Theoretical Visibility (ZTV) analysis can be used to help show the visual impact of a proposed development.
Using LiDAR data in the form of a Digital Terrain Model or Digital Surface Model, the exact (theoretical) area from where the target point (the development) is visible from can be plotted on a map.
This technique is useful both in urban and rural landscapes, and specific viewpoints can be entered to determine visibility from a given point.
